I've been keeping up with the recent changes in Texas property tax laws, especially the increase in the homestead exemption to $140,000 and the additional $60,000 for seniors and disabled homeowners. Despite these supposed relief measures, my property tax bill keeps climbing. I understand that appraised values can go up, but isn't the point of these exemptions to offset that? Is there something I'm missing here? Are local governments finding ways around these exemptions to keep increasing taxes? I'd appreciate any insights or explanations from folks who might have a better grasp on this.
