I am still absolutely shaken by the Amazon cargo plane crash at MIA this past Sunday. As someone who lives and breathes Miami real estate, I’m constantly bragging about our city’s growth, but this tragedy is a massive wake-up call. Five people lost their lives just going about their day—cleaning workers in a van and someone in their SUV—all because a 32-year-old plane overshot the runway by 1,300 feet.

It’s devastating. We are one of the busiest hubs in the world, especially on Labor Day weekend, and yet we’re seeing reports about a lack of specialized safety beds (EMAS) that could have stopped that jet. As a professional, I believe in efficiency and progress, but not at the cost of safety. If we want to keep attracting people to this beautiful city, our infrastructure has to be top-tier. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. We need answers from the NTSB and real accountability from the airport authorities. We can’t just let our transit safety slide while the rest of the city is booming.
