I am so overwhelmed with joy reading about the historic birth at Aisha Hospital here in Tamale! On August 15, a beautiful baby girl was born through IVF—the very first in Northern Ghana. As a community nurse, I see so many couples heartbroken by infertility, often due to tubal blockages or infections.
Before this, our people had to travel all the way to Accra or Kumasi, spending huge amounts of money they don't have just for a chance at parenthood. Seeing Dr. Sheila Issahaku and her team achieve this locally is a massive win for healthcare equity.
Being a social democrat, I believe everyone deserves access to quality medical tech regardless of where they live. It shouldn't just be for the elite in the south. This, along with the new dialysis center they just opened, shows that Northern Ghana is finally getting the specialized care we deserve. I hope the government supports these private initiatives to make them even more affordable for the average family. This isn't just science; it’s hope for my community! What do you all think about this breakthrough?
